In 2015, the Peruvian NGO Yunkawasi partnered with the community of Corosha to create a community based ecotourism project. Together, we are working to increase economic opportunities in the local community, while also increasing awareness of the unique ecosystem in which we live.
Corosha is located in the northeastern cloud forests of Peru, in the region of Amazonas. An altitude of 1,900 - 3,050 meters provides this area with a refreshingly cool and wet climate. Temperatures average from 11 - 20ºC. Come prepared with warm clothes and rain gear!
Home to about 200 families, our small community offers tourists a chance to experience our rich culture by participating in our homestay program. Two members of our women's group, “Asociación para la Promoción del Turismo y Conservación de Corosha” will provide comfortable housing and delicious meals. We will gladly accommodate any dietary restrictions/preferences.
Our field guide association is comprised of 14 knowledgeable guides who will enthusiastically guide you through the cloud forests of Corosha. A tour will be customized to your interests and which species and landscapes you wish to see.
How to arrive:
Pedro Ruiz is the closest city linking Corosha to the rest of Peru.
Along the main road (5N) and across from the Amazonense hotel, you will find vans that travel to Jumbilla. Board one of these vans and inform the driver that you would like to disembark in the town of Beirut (Beirut is the main town located within the District of Corosha). Travel time: ~1.5 hours
*Note: Vans do not adhere to a strict schedule, but rather only leave Pedro Ruiz once they have been filled. Therefore, plan to leave Pedro Ruiz before 4pm in order to secure transportation.
